Soccer, or football, is a very large sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnians take pride in their national team as they compete against other teams from around the world. Bosnians also love to participate and watch football at a local level with varying skill levels of teams all across the country
Hockey in Bosnia and Herzegovina is relatively new to the country, the league only forming a few decades ago by the former nation of Yugoslavia. Due to war and conflict within the nation the league was unable to operate for a number of years and is now going through the process of re assimilation and reconstruction of the league.
Even though rugby is not considered a national sport by the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina the national team is ranked eighty-eighth in the international rugby standings. Rugby has not been popular since the overthrow of Yugoslavia but the sport has been gaining recognition from the country, largely due ti the recent success the team has had in the past few seasons.
The Premier League of Volleyball of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the top volleyball league in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Volleyball is not at all a traditional sport in Bosina and Herzegovina and therefore it has had tremendous trouble gaining popularity within the country. This has started to change due to the great success that the female national team in international competition, gaining more momentum in their sporting events.
Recreatoin
The mountains of Bosnia and Herzegovina provide a perfect climate for winter sports from December to March, with plentiful and consistent snowfall. With modern facilities and a vast choice of quality accommodation, Sarajevo is among the best skiing resorts in south-eastern Europe. Snowboarding, snow shoeing, cross country and tour skiing are all popular activities in addition to downhill skiing in the mountains.
The climate of Bosnia allows for winter sports a portion of the year but nice weather summer activities can be enjoyed throughout the year. With endless mountains, forestland, rivers, beaches and oceans the activities are endless, ranging from rafting to surfing to biking to hiking and any other activity imaginable. The perfect temperate climate of the region allows for all of these activities year-round.

Chess is an very popular and traditional sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina because the people of the country see it for the strategic mind game that it really is. In some cases this battle of wits s more prestigious and challenging than a game of brute force.
